The scene of repeated incidents involving the same Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

A miniature Yorky very nearly killed... a woman attacked and bitten....

Vicious attacks on several innocent dogs and one attack causing bite injuries to an elderly lady are just another normal day for this out of control dog!

“Yes... I am a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and I pretty much do what I like. I don't need a lead because nobody seems to care where I go or what I do; so I just bite anything and anyone I don't like the look of”.

It all started in May of 2008 when a miniature Yorkshire Terrier was attacked and nearly killed. There were four independent witnesses to the attack all willing to put pen to paper in order to have action taken against both the dog, and its irresponsible owner. Several incidents later involving the 'Staffy', the dog warden attended.

The dog warden service in Hartlepool is, incidently, run by a very capable ex-police officer who will stop at nothing to erradicate our streets of dangerous dogs - but first he must tackle the owners, then he must try to do his job within the constraints of inadequate legislation.

The owner of the predatory Bull Terrier, who had by now mastered the art of escapism from Houdini himself, was spoken to about the actions of the dog and the dog warden was assured all measures would be taken to prevent the dog from getting out of the house. Thus, a gate was erected at the front door. Less than a week later the dog was out again, this time making a bee-line for the poor little Yorky's house. Fortunately, the cute little Yorky was safely tucked up in bed.

So, we now know the two foot gate didn't prevent Houdini from escaping. More worrying than a useless gate is the fact that this owner didn't know the dog was out again, rampaging around the local Derwent Streets looking for its next victim. Aware that the local residents were sick and tired of this vicious dog an ingenius idea was born - move the dog a few doors down; this surely will prevent the dog from escaping and if it bites anyone or anything, well... prove it's our dog? Yes an ingenius idea, and a true brainwave derived only from the mentality of an irresponsible dog owner.

Then, on the 25th June of this year, a woman was attacked and bitten further along the Derwent Street. It is unclear just whose dog attacked her but one thing is certain, it was one of three possible suspects of the same breed and the same colouring... and amazingly, the owners of these dogs are associated and live just a few doors apart; there is suspicion that the Houdini dog was farmed out to the same house where the two lookalikes reside, and possibly brought back again. This is of course mere conjecture at present but there is sufficient suspicion to warrant the intervention of the dog warden who is, along with the police, investigating the matter.

A resident from the local area has written in expressing his comments about the current situation of the Derwent Dog. He feels so strongly of the lack of affirmative action he wanted his comments published to this site.

Dear Sir

Congratulations on your website, it's nice to know there's someone who has the initiative to publicise the lack of action by all the authorities regarding dangerous dogs in Hartlepool. Here's hoping your website has continued success until the authorities wake up and start protecting the Hartlepool people from ignorant and stupid dog owners.

If I may I would like to add some information for inclusion on your site. I enclose a list of dog attacks in one particular area of our town.

- Thursday 1st May 2008. Dog on dog attack, Elliot Street (witness available - BMC)

- Tuesday 6th May 2008. Dog on dog attack, Barbara Mann Court (witness available - BMC)

- Tuesday 20th May 2008. Dog on dog attack, Barbara Mann Court (witness available - BMC)

- Thursday 12th June. Dog on dog attack, Derwent Street (witness available - Dent Street)

As you can see from my list, these attacks are concentrated in one particular area, namely Derwent Street, Elliot Street, and Barbara Mann Court. Several of my neigbours and friends have suffered attacks from the same dog over the last couple of months, and can identify both dog and owner who reside in Derwent Street. The council dog warden and others are actively working toward bringing these idiot owners to book. The latest attack by this dog happened Wednesday afternoon, when a lady was bitten on the calf. I have reliable information that after a visit from the dog warden, the dog owners have 'farmed out' the dog to friends further down the street in an attempt to avoid the consequences of their anti social and downright dangerous behaviour.

We are renowned the world over as a nation of dog lovers, and we are! It is a pity that a few irresponsible dog owners, here in Hartlepool, are making life very uncomfortable indeed. The worry over dog on dog attacks, and dog on human attacks is very real and a major concern to us all.

Please continue your work on the website and elsewhere to pursuade the local authorities to act swiftly and with gusto.

Sincerely

Alfie - BMC

DERWENT STREET

A one dog nightmare!

VICTIM

Twister is a much loved family pet adored by his owners. Like all dogs, he loves going out for his daily walks. Unlike all dogs, Twister is always kept on a leash.

In May 2008, Twister was out for one of his usual walks. Suddenly, and without warning, he was savagely attacked by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The Bull Terrier was not on a lead and worse still, it was not even accompanied by its owner. The dog responsible for this brutal attack (which very nearly cost Twister his life) is allegedly the same dog that frequently terrorises the neigbourhood.

Twister sustained life threatening injuries, including four broken ribs, and was rushed by vet ambulance to the local veterinary clinic. Thankfully Twister is on the road to recovery after receiving significant treatment for his injuries.

Twisters' owners are so incensed by the attack they have started a campaign to deal with the dog responsible and its irresponsible owner. So far the Council's dog warden service has been involved and although the owner has been spoken to by the warden service, it appears the dog has struck again - this time it attacked and injured an elderly woman.

Many thanks to Barbara.
